Our Vision

A world where women and girls, in all their diversity, live free from violence and the fear of violence.

Supporting GBV Prevention

The Accelerator for GBV Prevention was created to support and drive a Shared Advocacy Agenda for more and better funding and policy for GBV prevention. The Shared Advocacy Agenda is a collective call to action for the evidence-driven and transformative effort needed to prevent GBV.

Supporting GBV Prevention

Our Goal

The Accelerator brings together the GBV prevention community to advocate collectively for funding and policies to prevent GBV.

Our Goal

Our Work

Over recent decades, the work of women’s movements, researchers and practitioners has built a substantial evidence base for this work. The Accelerator exists to build shared understandings of what such policy and programming looks like, and to ensure it gets the funding it needs. We do this in two main ways.

Our Work

Movement Collaboration

We work closely with the GBV prevention movement – in collaboration with regional and national networks and women’s funds – to co-create advocacy strategies and communication tools and to support movement voices in global spaces and in bilateral engagement.

… to mobilise resources for GBV prevention

Global Advocacy

We build shared understandings and accountability mechanisms for GBV prevention at the global level: engaging donors, governments, women’s rights and other social justice organisations in an intersectional and transformative approach to ending violence.

Our Strength: The prevention ecosystem

There are a number of organisations and initiatives building evidence, undertaking research, and funding movements linked to GBV prevention. The Accelerator seeks to support and align with existing work and initiatives, not duplicate.

The Accelerator is not a fund. We are a platform for joint learning, collaboration and collective advocacy, supporting the advancement of financial and policy commitments towards GBV prevention.

Our Approach

The Accelerator is based in the following principles:

  • Take a feminist approach, aligned with those of Coalition of Feminists for Social Change (COFEM) and others, so diverse voices are heard and transformational gender equality is at the centre of our work.
  • Focus on not duplicating the work of existing initiatives.
  • Centre perspectives and leaders from the Global Majority.
  • Represent different sectors, including governments, international institutions, women’s rights and civil society organisations, researchers and activists.
