In order to achieve meaningful progress on all SDGs we must address the root causes of gender inequality, shift the negative social norms and attitudes that normalise GBV, and ensure that all women can live free from violence and discrimination.
This report serves as a comprehensive overview, offering an estimated baseline of direct donor investment in GBV prevention across Low- and Lower-Middle-Income Countries (LLMICs) from 2018 to 2023. By delving into the current funding landscape, it illuminates prevailing trends while strategically identifying gaps and opportunities for enhancing prevention funding. The report goes further to propose an effective approach for monitoring progress towards the GBV prevention goals outlined in the Shared Advocacy Agenda and the Generation Equality GBV Action Coalition blueprint. As a valuable resource, it not only provides key recommendations but also highlights opportunities for donors to amplify their investment in GBV prevention, fostering a collective commitment to address this critical issue.
With less than three years to achieve the 2026 GBV Action Coalition commitments and seven years until the end of the SDGs, there is an urgent need to understand and track progress towards the target of $USD 500 million in new money for evidence-based prevention programs and policies in LLMICs. This report focuses on understanding the existing donor funding landscape, the opportunities to drive future investment and the proposed approach to tracking new money for GBV prevention towards 2026.
